JOHANNESBURG - Areas east of the City of Tshwane can expect water shortages after a fault was identified at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station.

The Mapleton Booster Pumping Station, situated in the City of Ekurhuleni, experienced an outage on Saturday night - however, the power supply was swiftly restored.

Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba said yet another power outage was experienced at the Mapleton system on Sunday morning.

"The City of Ekurhuleni investigated the cause of the trip which their technicians identified as a faulty surge arrestor."

He said a joint operations committee meeting was underway on Sunday morning between the cities of Ekurhuleni and Tshwane to assess the required interventions.

"If power is not restored at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station, areas in the east of Tshwane will not have water supply as pumping will not take place. Mapleton booster pumping station pumps water to rand water’s reservoirs in the east of the city, which, in turn, supply water to the city of Tshwane’s reservoirs."
