JOHANNESBURG - The motion of no confidence against Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has been tabled and is currently being debated on the council floor.
This comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) requested and was granted two one-hour caucus breaks.
Frans Boshielo, the ANC councillor who submitted the motion, said that residents of the capital city wanted a change of government.
"The ANC is responding to the clarion call to action by the people of Tshwane. Our people are yearning for the city that provides reliable and efficient basic services and infrastructure. our people are yearning for a city that is transparent, accountable democratic and has sound internal control mechanisms."
Meanwhile, DA councillor, Kwena Moloto, said that there were ulterior motives to remove the current governing coalition.
"Let me reiterate, this motion is about one thing: regaining access to the city’s finances for corrupt purposes. Any other explanation doesn’t hold water because under this multi-party government, Tshwane has made real tangible progress in our financial rescue plan."
