MIDRAND - Displaced residents from the gutted Broadwalk Urban Village complex in Midrand have expressed frustration over a lack of planning to secure them alternative accommodation.
The residents said that the building owners, represented by Mafadi Property Management, had failed to communicate a long-term solution following the tragedy.
A fire that broke out at the building on Tuesday night claimed one life and destroyed 130 units, leaving many families helpless.
Several residents are now homeless after the fire gutted their homes.
The blaze, which was extinguished on Monday night, left a trail of devastation, and on Wednesday afternoon, the remains of an unidentified woman were recovered from the rubble.
With nothing but the clothes on their backs, residents are now demanding answers and help for their next steps.
Acting Joburg Mayor Jack Sekwaila is expected to visit the scene later on Wednesday.
It seems the fire broke out on the top floor of the building, there was nobody in the unit. #Midrand @motso_modise pic.twitter.com/HQ1j33VRB5
