Parts of M1, M2 highway closed off to traffic due to ABSA 10km race - JMPD

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has cautioned motorists that parts of the M1 and M2 highways will be closed off to traffic due to the ABSA Run Your City 10km.
The department said the significant road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
The annual race started at 08:00 on Tuesday morning and is expected to conclude at about 1 pm.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said: "Full Road Closures will be implemented on the M1 South [De Villiers Graaff Motorway] at Empire Road, the M2 East at M1 North Split from Gold Reef City, the M2 East at M1 North Split from Crown Mines, the M1 South and Jan Smuts off ramp, the M1 North and Smith off ramp, M1 North and M2 East Split from Gold Reef City, the M1 North and M2 East Split from Main Reef Road, Heidelberg Road, and Harrow Road.”
Fihla added that motorists are urged to plan their journeys and seek alternative routes during the closure periods, while officers will be deployed to manage traffic flow and minimise disruptions.
