CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says its initiative to install more cameras across Cape Town has helped in achieving more arrests.

According to the metro, crime incidents detected through CCTV have increased from 22,000 last year to over 40,000 in the current year.

The municipality says technology has always been at the centre of its efforts to fight crime in the Mother City.

It says it will continue to invest in technology to keep its residents safe.

The Metro's safety and security portfolio committee chairperson Mzwakhe Nqavashe has urged residents to report any criminal activity in their communities to authorities.

"It is also testament to the dedication of our enforcement officers and the effectiveness of technology in making Cape Town a safer place," said Nqavashe.
