Ahmed Kathrada Foundation hosting memorial service to honour Pravin Gordhan
The service, currently underway in Johannesburg CBD, gathers family, friends, and fellow activists to pay tribute to Gordhan’s enduring legacy.

JOHANNESBURG - The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is hosting a memorial service on Sunday to honour the life and activism of the late Pravin Gordhan.
The service in the Johannesburg CBD, gathers family, friends, and fellow activists to pay tribute to Gordhan’s enduring legacy.

Among the speakers are the Gordhan family, former Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan, African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, and anti-apartheid stalwart Sophia Williams-De Bruyn.
This memorial follows Gordhan’s cremation last week, after he passed away at the age of 75.
His death has left the nation in mourning, as he was not only a key figure in the liberation struggle, but also a towering figure in government, known for his integrity and principled leadership.
Throughout his career, Gordhan held several key ministerial roles, including Minister of Finance and Minister of Public Enterprises, where he worked tirelessly to combat corruption and stabilize South Africa’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation’s memorial serves as a poignant reflection on Gordhan’s remarkable life, his sacrifices, and his dedication to building a better South Africa.
