Cape Town commuters who use the MyCiTi bus service can look forward to paying lower fares from next month.
The price drop, which takes effect on 1 October, is thanks to the sustained decrease in diesel prices for three consecutive months.
These of course resulted in lower operating costs, which are now being passed on to commuters.
The City of Cape Town reviews MyCiTi fares every year on 1 July, following the conclusion of its annual budget process.
They welcome the coming fare reduction during these harsh economic times when 'every cent counts', said Councillor Rob Quintas.
"The monthly pass remains great value for money by offering passengers unlimited travel on as many routes and as many times as they wish, not only to work but to explore the City on weekends and holidays."
Rob Quintas, Mayco Member for Urban Mobility

Peak fares apply to journeys starting on weekdays from 06:45 to 08:00, and from 16:15 to 17:30.
Off-peak fares (Saver) apply to all other times, including all day on weekends and public holidays.
The City says a new myconnect card will remain at R40, and passengers won't pay any more for penalties incurred when they don't tap in and out correctly.
