JOHANNESBURG - The late Pravin Gordhan's daughter, Anisha, said her father wasn't deterred by what she described as unjust attacks he faced during his tenure as the Minister of Public Enterprises.

Anisha reflected on her father's time as a public representative during his funeral service in Durban on Thursday.

Dozens of people gathered at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre to pay tribute to the anti-apartheid activist.

Gordhan faced criticism in the last few years, with some attributing the collapse of certain State institutions to the former Public Enterprises Minister.

However, his daughter, Anisha, said her father remained committed to rebuilding the country’s State-owned enterprises (SOEs), despite what she described as unfair attacks, even from his party members.

"After the 27 questions, the arrest warrants, the unintelligent intelligence reports, and being so gravely disappointed by his own comrades, I asked if he was able to sleep. His message to me was, ‘I won't allow these thugs to steal my precious sleep. I sleep with a clear conscience of doing nothing wrong’."

She said Gordhan was profoundly disappointed by many of his African National Congress (ANC) comrades who succumbed to corruption, greed, and self-interest.

She also noted that some of those comrades sang his praises following his passing.
