CAPE TOWN - Cape Town police said their efforts to rid communities of illegal firearms and distribution of drugs are paying off.

This follows the arrest of five suspects in separate incidents.

On Thursday, two men aged 26 and 31 were nabbed in one of the metro's crime hotspots, Hanover Park, for the possession of illegal firearms.

Police said three other people were arrested in Maitland for being in possession of a firearm and drugs.

The police's Malcolm Poje: "The five suspects will appear in the Athlone and Wynberg Magistrates' Courts once charged."
