The numbers are stacked against him after ActionSA announced its 19-member caucus would not support him.
In a media briefing on Thursday, Brink said he is committed to the capital city.
“I intend to stay on as the mayor. My commitment is to the city. I left a perfectly comfortable seat in Parliament for the risk of leading a coalition which at that stage had a serious policy dispute.
“I live in the city, my family is here, I love the city, [and] my commitment is to the city. My first priority is to maintain the progress we have made, and I don’t want to entertain any other prospects or hypotheticals beyond that.”
