JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA)-led multiparty coalition that governs Tshwane says it won’t be retaliating against ActionSA councillors who currently serve on the municipality’s executive.

ActionSA recently withdrew from the multiparty coalition in the capital city.

However, the party did not withdraw its councillors who were deployed by the coalition to executive positions.

ActionSA councillors currently occupy the deputy mayor position, MMC for economic development and chairs of three oversight committees.

In a media briefing earlier on Thursday, Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink said he wouldn’t plunge the city into further instability like ActionSA had done.

“ActionSA plunged us into this crisis, breached the agreement, forced our hand, made serious miscalculations and now the instability does threaten the future of the city, but I’m not going to be the person who in the midst of this uncertainty, loses my mind and start shuffling out members of the mayoral committee.

“Key projects, as I’ve emphasised, such as Hammanskraal need people who were at the decision-making table, part of the process to remain there for a period of time until some kind of settlement is reached or clarity.”
