SIU recovers R6m of R18m owed by former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng
In 2016, while leading the troubled state-owned entity, Motsoeneng was awarded an R11.5-million-rand success fee for securing a broadcast deal with MultiChoice which the courts later ruled to be unlawful.

JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has successfully recovered R6 million of the R18 million owed by former SABC Chief Operating Officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng to the public broadcaster.
In 2016, while leading the troubled state-owned entity, Motsoeneng was awarded an R11.5 million success fee for securing a broadcast deal with MultiChoice.
However, the Gauteng High Court later ruled the payment unlawful and invalid, ordering him to repay the money.
Motsoeneng's attempts to challenge the ruling have repeatedly failed.
In January 2023, the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal with costs. And now, the Constitutional Court has followed suit, denying him the chance to appeal the previous decision.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago: "The Special Investigating Unit has already recovered R6,476,515 from his pension benefits. The SIU welcomes and sees the Constitutional Court's decision as a positive step, as it clears the way to pursue the outstanding amount from Motsoeneng."
