JOHANNESBURG - It has been a day mourning as dozens of people gathered at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban to pay their respects to the late Pravin Gordhan.

His family, friends, and fellow politicians remembered him as a true gift to the nation, commending his relentless efforts to fight state capture.

Gordhan, who died last week, was cremated at a private ceremony shortly after his funeral service on Thursday afternoon.

Pravin Gordhan’s coffin arrived at his funeral service, draped in a green, black, and gold African National Congress (ANC) flag, surrounded by his family and close friends.

His wife, Vanitha Raju, watched in sorrow as the ANC flag was replaced with the national flag, symbolising his lifelong dedication to serving the country.

Overcome with emotion, she wept uncontrollably, and President Cyril Ramaphosa quickly stepped in to comfort her as she looked at her late husband’s coffin.
