It's humpback whale season which means the ocean's giants are migrating north passing through the Southern Hemisphere's seas.
One humpback passing through had a tragic experience as it found itself tied up in rope off Miller’s Point.
The whale was spotted trying to free itself of the rope by locals who posted about it online and re-shared by @SeafariApp online.
Tragic series of images taken by Dean Muller in #FalseBay, #CapeTown, today of a Humpback #whale thrashing about trying to rid itself of rope in which it is #entangled. Tomorrow the #SAWDN & @NSRI will try to locate & free it from this curse that plagues these creatures! pic.twitter.com/i6wBKTd99y

There‘s been sustained feeding by a small group of Humpback #whales in western False Bay, #CapeTown, the past 2 weeks. Local supreme spotter, Nanette Smith, captured these 2 whales a couple of minutes ago celebrating the bay‘s „krillinary“ delights!!! pic.twitter.com/nfXzARH9mY

The 'entangled distressed and panicked' Humpback was freed off Miller’s Point in Cape Town this morning, 19 September 2024.
The animal was freed by NSRI after Capetonian Nanette Smith for spotting the animal and saving its life.
@SeafariApp also posted about the rescue online.
"Whales live a threatened existence, so if you spot more of these and can stop to rescue or help, please do and be whale-aware during this season."

Distressed & panicked #Humpback whale entangled off Miller’s Point, #CapeTown, this morning. Only posting this tragic footage because the animal was freed by @NSRI #SAWDN shortly afterwards!
