CAPE TOWN - Two murderers have each been sentenced by the Western Cape High Court to life imprisonment.
Jacobus Barendse and Ashley Diegal were found guilty of the murder of businessman Reginald Gordon in 2019.
The pair broke into Gordon's home in Strand, stabbed him three times, and tied him up inside his room.
They stole some home contents and a car belonging to the deceased.
The court heard that Jacob Barendse used to work for the Gordon family after the deceased offered him a second chance, after Barendse’s stint in a rehabilitation centre.
On the weekend of the murder, he heard the family speaking about attending a birthday party in Worcester and even helped them pack the vehicle.
However, he was unaware that the deceased decided not to go to the party, surprising the pair when they broke into the family home.
The accused blamed each other for the murder and after five years both were found guilty of the murder.
Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile has commended the work of the investigators who closed the case.
