JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) said it had noted a threat by some of its members in Ekurhuleni to challenge a decision by secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, to extend the regional task team's mandate.
In a legal letter to Mbalula, which Eyewitness News has seen, he's accused of making a misdirected, irregular and improper decision.
The ANC in Ekurhuleni is yet to hold a regional conference following a High Court judgment setting aside the outcomes of the chaotic 2022 elective conference, which saw Mzwandile Masina re-elected as chairperson.
Nineteen votes, which had the potential to swing the results, were quarantined.
The ANC has since set up a task team but has failed to re-convene the conference as per Judge Denise Fisher’s ruling.

They claim this was done without the approval of the party’s officials, national working and executive committees, insisting this was not only misdirected but irregular and improper.
The pair also raised concerns over the supposed lack of action in taking the region to conference, a year since being ordered to re-convene the congress.
ANC acting spokesperson, Zuko Godlimpi, said that the party’s legal team was considering the legal letter and would reply in due course.
