Helderberg (Gordon's Bay) trench collapses, traps three construction workers

Three construction workers were trapped when a trench collapsed in Helderberg.
They were installing the new Gordon’s Bay rising pipeline at the corner of Broadway Boulevard and Broadlands Road.
Emergency services and first responders were on the scene and rescued the workers.
None of the three were seriously injured but were taken to the hospital for observation.
According to Badroodien, two were partially covered and one required full extraction.
“All three are safe and sound… no fatalities.”

Investigations are underway to see what went wrong and to ensure it is safe to continue the project.
