DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal said that late former minister, Pravin Gordhan should be remembered as a freedom fighter.
The party was in Gordhan’s home province on Wednesday night for a memorial service in his honour.
Mourners gathered at the Kendra Hall in Durban to pay their respects before the funeral on Thursday.
ANC provincial chairperson, Siboniso Duma: "It has just sunk in that comrade Pravin Gordhan is no longer with us, comrade Pravin Gordhan is no more. So, it means we are going to extract from what has been done while he was still on earth, he has contributed a caliber of excellence, ensuring that he understands the issue of selfless character."
Duma said that Gordhan must be remembered as a figure who made sacrifices for the country’s liberation.
"He went to Robben Island at some point in time, understanding that he had to fight for this country and for the liberation of the organisation called ANC."
