DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police have launched a manhunt for one of the most wanted criminals, linked to a string of extortion cases.
Linda Hlengwa was nabbed for the possession of illegal firearms in Mariannhill in 2020.
However, he ignored a summons to appear before the Pinetown Magistrates Court to face criminal charges.
Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda: “Police in KwaZulu-Natal are seeking the assistance of community members in locating Linda Hlengwa, who is wanted in connection with cases of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.”
He said that a warrant for Hlengwa’s arrest had been issued.
“Hlengwa, who also goes by the name ‘Mjinja’ or ‘Putin’ is also wanted in connection with a string of extortion cases in which he is allegedly terrorising businesspeople in and around the Mariannhill area. Hlengwa’s warrant of arrest was issued by the Pinetown Magistrates Court on 9 September 2024.”
Police say Hlongwa was arrested on 20 July 2020 after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition at St Wendolins, Mariannhill and was released from custody pending ballistic results. Since then he has ignored summons to appear in court to face his charges. @_NMabaso
