DURBAN - The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) said that the late former minister Pravin Gordhan remained a hero in spite of negative talk over his legacy.
The party hosted a memorial service in honour of Gordhan in Durban on Wednesday evening.
It criticised people that have been scrutinising his character following his passing.
Hundreds of ANC supporters gathered at the Kendra Hall to remember the leader before his funeral on Thursday.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has come to Ggordhan's defence as he continues to receive criticism posthumously.
Many have taken to social media, blaming him for some of the country's economic losses since his passing.
Party provincial chairperson, Siboniso Duma, addressed mourners on Wednesday evening: "It is not our intention to dwell on negative comments made by forces opposed to the ANC in various social media platforms."
He said that to the ANC, Gordhan would always remain a giant.
"But as the family, rest assured that whenever a giant who has just passed away has done a great job in the process, he was bound to offend either the system or those who are antagonistic towards change."
Gordhan will be laid to rest in a special funeral on Thursday.
