JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) members are set to protest Eskom’s proposed electricity tariff increase across the country on Wednesday.
The power utility has asked the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) for a 36% hike for its direct customers and 44% for those supplied by municipalities.

The DA’s Kevin Mileham said Eskom’s bid for an increase is unfair to South Africans already struggling to make ends meet.
“Since 2007, Eskom has increased electricity prices by 450%, placing unbearable financial strain on South African households and businesses.
“The DA is resolute in its opposition to these extortionate increases, which threaten the livelihood of millions of South Africans, forcing them to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.”
