CAPE TOWN - The State has welcomed the Cape Town Magistrates Court’s decision to grant former City of Cape Town Human Settlements Mayco member Malusi Booi and nine others bail.
Booi and four co-accused received bail of R250,000 each. Four other co-accused were granted R25,000 bail each.
They were arrested last week in connection with alleged tender fraud amounting to just over R1 billion within Cape Town's Human Settlements directorate.
"The applicant is prohibited to make contact directly or indirectly with any witness for the State until the matter is finalised. The applicant is prohibited from leaving the Republic of South Africa for the full duration of the case up until it is finalised."
Magistrate Alida Theart set out some of these bail conditions for all 10 accused in the case.
The magistrate also lambasted some of the accused for failing to submit to the court as part of their bail applications - proof of directorship of companies they claim to be heading.
The case has been postponed to 16 October for further investigations and to add alleged 28s gang boss, Ralph Stanfield, and his wife, Nicole Johnson, to the indictment.
