JOHANNESBURG - Joburg City Power has reiterated that it is committed to clamping down on cable theft following the arrest of six suspects linked to the crime.
Three security guards, employed by a third party company, are expected to appear in court on Tuesday on a charge of tampering with essential infrastructure after moving cables that were on site without authorisation on Sunday.
At the same time, two of the utility’s contractors were arrested after being found in possession of copper materials and another suspect was arrested during a raid at a metal scrap yard in Roodepoort on Tuesday.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that the arrests would go a long way in the fight against the scourge of theft and vandalism.
"These cases underscore City Power’s commitment to protecting essential infrastructure and ensuring accountability for those involved in such crimes. We would like to thank members of the Essential Infrastructure Task Team for their timely intervention every time when they are called upon."
