JOHANNESBURG - The Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital is experiencing low water pressure on Tuesday morning, which is affecting operations.
The Department of Health said this is due to changes in the supply system implemented by Johannesburg Water.
The department said following an investigation by its technicians on Monday, when the facility started experiencing low water pressure, it was discovered that Johannesburg Water had cut supply to the facility’s bulk water tanks on Friday without any prior notice.
The department’s Khutso Rabothata said this has caused a major ripple effect at the facility.
"Hospital management has prioritised emergency cases and redirected elective surgeries to nearby facilities."
The department said it has secured a supply of 500,000 litres of water overnight to ensure patient care is not compromised.
Rabothata said talks with Johannesburg Water continue to find a speedy solution.
