JOHANNESBURG - The Higher Education Department has announced that National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for the 2025 academic year will open on Friday (20 September).
The application process, originally set to open on Monday (16 September), was postponed due to stakeholder engagements that were concluded on Sunday.
The department also noted that the delay was caused by the need to conduct a dry run of its systems before launching applications for next year.

At a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday, Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane said that the department would work to ensure a smooth application process.
"I am therefore inviting students who are sitting for their matriculation this year to take this opportunity to apply for either the bursary or loan. This invitation is also extended to learners from grades 9, 10 and 11, who would like to enter the technical and vocational training sector," said Nkabane.
