CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile is expected to headline appearances in Parliament this week when he faces oral questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

Mashatile’s return comes not so long after suffering a health scare when he collapsed on stage in Limpopo at the weekend.

Mashatile’s appearance in the NCOP comes two weeks after President Cyril Ramaphosa also appeared in the upper house, where he was grilled on the National Health Insurance (NHI), rampant extortion and the economy.

The deputy president is expected to face questions on the centralisation of the State-Owned Entities (SOEs) into one holding company, questions on land reform, as well as extortion in the township economy.

This week in Parliament will also see economic cluster ministers like Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana also making an appearance, a week before Parliament goes on recess.

The economic cluster ministers are scheduled to appear before the National Assembly on Wednesday for an oral question-and-answer session around issues like budget cuts.

Staying with budget cuts, the portfolio committee on basic education will also receive a briefing on the impact and implications of budget cuts and the declaration of posts by all nine provincial education departments.
