JOHANNESBURG - Tito Jackson, the original member of the legendary family band Jackson 5, has died.
The musician was 70.
On Monday, Tito's sons, RnB trio 3T (Taj Jackson, Taryll Jackson, and TJ Jackson) announced their father's death on social media.
"It's with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, is no longer with us. We're astonished, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an excellent man who genuinely cared about everyone's well-being."
Tito was a founding member of The Jackson 5, which included Michael, Jackie, Jermaine Jackson, and Marlon (and later Randy Jackson).
Tito had been playing with brothers Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson as The Jacksons prior to his death, with gigs scheduled for Scotland, California, and England in the summer of 2024.
They performed as recently as September 8 in Surrey, England, and have shows scheduled in October in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and November in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Throughout the 1970s, the family pop trio scored hits with songs including I Want You Back, ABC, and I'll Be There.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, and they also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
