JOHANNESBURG - Police have seized drugs worth over R13 million at OR Tambo International Airport over the past two months.
A multi-disciplinary team has also arrested nine drug traffickers at the international airport during the same period.
In the latest bust, an alleged mule was found in possession of cocaine on Friday night. The contraband was stashed inside several headphone devices which he had on his person.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the National Police Commissioner General, Fannie Masemola, has welcomed the operation’s successes and reiterated his stance that the country is not a playground for criminals.
“In the past two months, more than R13 million of drugs, including R12 million worth of cocaine, has been seized at OR Tambo Airport. Nine drug traffickers or drug mules have been arrested during this same period. We continue to assert the authority of the state.”
