JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says former Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan has left behind a trail of destruction at South Africa's state institutions.

The former minister died in hospital on Friday morning, following a short battle with cancer.

In a statement, the EFF said Gordhan's legacy is one of failure, exploitation, and corruption, suggesting he brought state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to their knees.

EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said the party wouldn't mourn Gordhan's passing.

“The Economic Freedom Fighters notes the death of Pravin Gordhan without any pretence of sorrow. Gordhan was a man whose legacy is deeply intertwined with the destruction of our state-owned enterprises and the betrayal of the people of South Africa.”

She says Gordhan's tenure as public enterprises minister was disastrous.

“He was an unapologetic instrument of capitalism, who deliberately dismantled the very entities meant to uplift and develop our nation. His actions directly contributed to the high levels of unemployment. He left countless families to suffer and are still suffering today.”
