JOHANNESBURG - The daughter of late anti-apartheid activist Pravin Gordhan said that despite his deep involvement in government, he always made time for his family, even during the most turbulent times.

Priyesha Gordhan said that while the former minister was committed to serving the country, he was a father and a husband before anything else.

"He was stoic, great and formidable in public but he was soft, kind, generous, humble and compassionate at home."

She said that despite spending significant amounts of time on the job, the former minister always made time for his family.

"We had a very close relationship. I've said many times that he was my best friend and entire existence. I am what I am because of him."

Gordhan’s family said that he would be laid to rest in Durban on Thursday next week.
