JOHANNESBURG - Joburg City Power has disconnected electricity to the Reef Hotel in Johannesburg due to an R4.1 million unpaid bill.
The local power supplier has been conducting a cut-off operation in CBD on Thursday - disconnecting both commercial and residential properties with outstanding payments.
In the heart of Johannesburg's inner city, stands a tall 15-storey building that serves as a hotel and also hosts corporate conferences.
Despite making regular payments to Joburg City Power, the Reef Hotel has accumulated debt over time.
The hotel is now relying on diesel-powered generators to maintain its operations.
City Power says despite trying to convince the hotel’s management to settle outstanding bills on multiple occasions, it hasn't shown much interest in paying the debt.
Residential properties are also set to be cut off in and around the inner city on Thursday.
