CAPE TOWN - The latest Victims of Crime Survey shows there has been an increase in households that fall victim to crimes like murder and sexual offences.

Stats SA presented the survey to the police committee on Wednesday.
The latest Victims of Crime Survey shows how more South African households have fallen victim to criminality.
Solly Molayi, StatsSA acting DDG for population and social statistics said around 2.6 million households experienced housebreaking/burglary during the past 5 years.
He said that murders reported to police by households have also increased by 18% in the previous year.
"Looking at murder in the past five years we are seeing about 67 000 households experienced murder. And if you look at sexual offences over the past five years households we’re talking 47 000."
Molayi also said 2.8 million individuals experienced theft of personal property during the past five years with half a million South Africans experiencing robbery in the same period.
