JOHANNESBURG - The inaugural Motherland International Blues and Jazz Festival, a tribute to South Africa's rich musical legacy and thriving jazz and blues scene, will take place this summer.

This unprecedented event, set against the backdrop of our nation's cultural tapestry, will take place on 27 October 2024, at the Naledi Community Hall in Soweto, providing an intimate and unique experience for music aficionados of all ages.

The festival will be serenaded by an extraordinary array of musicians, including Smoke J Lawrence, who is known for his unique sound and compelling performances.

Smoke J Lawrence, the organisation's originator, said: "We are excited to bring this movement to the public. This festival is more than just an entertainment showcase. At the heart of our purpose is the essence of Africa, embodied in the time-honored tradition of call and response. This hallowed ritual has become ingrained in our company's fabric and history, joining us in labor, adversity, joy, and collective war cries."

He added that this was a critical period, as the globe searched for balance.

"We stand on the verge of an unparalleled opportunity to be leaders, to cultivate growth in a seed that will bear fruits for future generations," said Lawrence.

The Soweto Family Band, with their dynamic blend of traditional rhythms and modern jazz, Nkosaza M, Sawubona Music Jam Band, fusing diverse influences into a rhythmic and soulful performance, Ian King, known for his emotional playing and deep musicality, Themba Msomi, Simunye Theatrical Faces, and Tshepo JR Mokoena ft. Lindo Summer, will also light up the stage.

The Motherland International Blues and Jazz Festival strives to highlight South Africa's rich and diverse musical talent while also be building a sense of community via music's universal language.
