JOHANNESBURG - Ballistic evidence will be further probed in the Senzo Meyiwa trial on Tuesday morning as the court explores whether the links drawn to one of the accused are legitimate.
The State has called a second person from the police’s ballistics unit to testify on how he reviewed the work of Lieutenant Colonel Chris Mangena.
According to Mangena, the bullet found on the scene of the football star’s murder has been positively linked with the gun belonging to one of the accused.
This was established through comparing the marks found on the bullet and those made by the same gun on other bullets during testing.
On Monday, chief forensic investigator Colonel Olebile Sereo confirmed this link.
“This is more or less the representation of a non-match. The two tool marks were produced by different tools, with a very small measure of similarities. During comparison, to make a positive match, this kind of similarity from tool marks produced by different tools must be exceeded by far.”
His testimony continues on Tuesday morning.
