Public urged not to speculate on cause of deadly Vanrhyns Pass bus crash

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape department of mobility has urged the public not to speculate about the cause of the bus crash on Vanrhyns pass earlier this week.
Ten people died and 29 were injured when the bus veered off the mountain pass on Monday evening.
The bus has now been taken to a specialised facility to undergo a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Hugo Geldenhuys, spokesperson for MEC Isaac Sileku, said the department acknowledged the importance of waiting for SAPS to complete its investigation before making any conclusions.
"The department calls on the public to, in the best interest of the injured and the families and loved ones, of those who lost their lives, not to speculate about any matter related to the accident, while these investigations are underway," said Sileku.
Meanwhile, MEC for health and wellness, Mireille Wenger, has sent condolences to the affected families.
"My thoughts and condolences are with those affected by this tragedy. I would once again like to thank our dedicated EMS and hospital teams who responded with great urgency and care," said Wenger.
Wenger also thanked forensic pathology teams for ensuring the dignity of the deceased and closure for their families.
