CAPE TOWN - A high-ranking cop says two co-accused in the trial against alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack who tried to become informants for the anti-gang unit had their own agenda.

The pair are accused of plotting to kill slain top cop, slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, on behalf of Modack before his eventual murder in September 2020.

Modack and 14 others face 122 charges related to a slew of crimes, all centred around Kinnear's murder.

General Andre Lincoln on Thursday testified that co-accused couple, Yannick Adonis and Amaal Jantjies gave the anti-gang unit information in the hope it would secure Adonis's bail in 2019.

At the time, Adonis faced charges of murder and attempted murder in Khayelitsha Magistrates Court.

Lincoln said the couple pointed police to abandoned firearms and drugs in Delft, which were of no value to the unit.

He told the court it became clear the pair had an agenda when Adonis expressed anger after being told he would not get bail.

Adonis and Jantjies face charges of conspiracy to commit murder after allegedly planning a hand grenade attack on the Kinnear family on behalf of Modack in November 2019.

The trial is set to continue with Lincoln's testimony on Monday.
