JOHANNESBURG - Award-winning director Diana Keam's Don't Be Late for My Funeral, which received high acclaim throughout its successful festival run, will open in a few select theaters around the country on Friday, September 20.
The film takes audiences on an introspective and grieving journey. In search of a more comprehensive grasp of her family's past, the director consults Margaret Bogopa Matlala, a former nanny and domestic worker who served multiple generations of Diana's family - an unexpected but incredibly personal source.
Diana travels to a small South African village to see Margaret at her house. As the documentary progresses, we get to witness the significant influence Margaret's wisdom had on Diana's family throughout several generations, as well as Margaret's own family, all of which were set against the backdrop of South Africa's apartheid-era hardships.
Margaret's unshakable fortitude and unbreakable spirit shine through the film, shedding light on the themes of human love and resilience in the face of hardship.
