CAPE TOWN - The bus which veered off Vanrhyns Pass earlier this week has been taken to a specialised facility to undergo a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Ten people died and 29 were injured after the bus, which was carrying farmworkers from the Northern Cape to Ceres, rolled down the mountain pass on Monday.

The Western Cape mobility department said the bus was safely removed from the scene on Wednesday.

As the investigation into the crash continues, the Western Cape government has called on the public to respect the families of the victims by not speculating about the cause of the accident.

Western Cape Health MEC Mireille Wenger said her thoughts and condolences are with those affected by the tragedy.

"I would once again like to thank our dedicated EMS and hospital teams who responded with great urgency and care, as well as our forensic pathology teams whose work is necessary to ensure the dignity of the deceased and closure for their families."

Forensic pathology services are working to process the victims.
