JOHANNESBURG - Former Midvaal mayor, Bongani Baloyi, said that he would politely decline offers from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party's leadership to represent the organisation in Parliament or the provincial legislature.
He said that there was more to politics than being a public representative, suggesting he had no ambitions to become an MP as of yet.
Baloyi is the latest political figure to join the organisation, following in the footsteps of several others who switched their allegiance to the MK Party.

Former Democratic Alliance (DA), ActionSA, and Xiluva member, Baloyi, who has now officially joined the MK Party, said that he currently had no aspirations to become a member of Parliament.
Instead, he aims to focus on developing the party's structures, including its branches, leagues, and provincial leadership collective.
He said that although the MK party had grown exponentially in its 10 months of existence, it was now crucial to focus resources on securing the party's future.
"With that, we are presenting our leadership and saying we are here, we are present, excited and we are ready and committed to be part of the progressive forces in the ranks of uMkhonto weSizwe."
Baloyi, who previously served as Midvaal mayor, said that it was now time to prepare the MK Party for the 2026 local government elections.
