JOHANNESBURG - One municipality out of 11 in Gauteng has received a clean audit, prompting the province's government to call for improved compliance.
The Midvaal Municipality was the only municipality in Gauteng to receive an unqualified audit opinion with no findings for the 2022 / 2023 financial year.

In the recently released Auditor-General (AG)'s report, six other municipalities in Gauteng received positive unqualified audit opinions with findings, while the rest received adverse opinions from the AG.
During a media briefing on Thursday, Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile said the provincial government would be intensifying training for senior managers at struggling municipalities.
"Compliance with legislation is not improving and remains a stumbling block towards good governance as most municipalities still did not comply with procurement legislation," said Maile.
