CAPE TOWN - A police officer has detailed how two co-accused in the trial against alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, became informants for the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU).

The pair are accused of plotting a botched hand grenade attack on slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, on behalf of Modack.

Modack and 14 co-accused face 122 charges related to various charges, centered around the murder of Kinnear.

General Andre Lincoln testified on Thursday about how he met with co-accused, Yannick Adonis and Amaal Jantjies, in 2019.

Lincoln said he met with Adonis after being instructed to do so by Kinnear, who was head of the Anti-Gang Unit at the time.

Lincoln told the court that Adonis, who was on trial for murder at the time, promised he would provide information if he was released on bail.

Adonis insisted that his girlfriend, Jantjies, be part of the meetings, saying she would corroborate the information he shared.

He said that Jantjies also promised to provide the unit with information that could incriminate Modack.
