JOHANNESBURG - Hot on the heels of former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Mmabatho Mokause announcing that she's ditched the Red Berets for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK), it seems former Midvaal mayor, Bongani Baloyi, is likely to follow in her footsteps.

Mokause, who also served as a national organiser in the EFF, announced via social media this weekend that she'd left the party.

Eyewitness News understands that Baloyi, whose Xiluva party performed dismally in the 2024 general polls, might be the MK Party’s latest recruit.

Last month, Floyd Shivambu announced that he would be leaving his position as deputy president of the EFF to join former President Jacob Zuma's outfit.

Baloyi, after quitting the Democratic Alliance, joined ActionSA, however, that relationship didn’t last long.

He launched his own party, Xiluva, in 2023. The party only garnered 2,500 votes on the national ballot in the May elections.

It would appear he's making a comeback, with expectations that his organisation will align itself with the MK party, an organisation, which has similar values and ideologies to his Xiluva.

Eyewitness News doesn't expect Baloyi to head to Parliament. Some insiders suggest he would want to team up with Shivambu in building structures for the MK party.

Baloyi is expected to shed more light on this in the coming days.
