JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party continues to grow as former Midvaal mayor, Bongani Baloyi, is the latest to join the organisation.
Baloyi, who established his Xiluva political party last year, previously served in the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA.
He officially announced his decision to join former President Jacob Zuma’s MK Party in Soweto on Thursday.
Dozens of MK party members welcomed Baloyi to the organisation.
Baloyi said that the rise of the MK Party significantly shifted the political landscape, firmly believing the party was the sole option to rescue the country.
"Parties and black people must unite. We believe that uMkhonto weSizwe Party, his excellency President Jacob Zuma, have the right and legitimacy to lead the process of consolidating the forces of the left and other progressive movement."
Baloyi quit the DA in 2021 after serving in the party for 14 years.
He then joined ActionSA and became the party's chairperson in Gauteng until he established his own political party last year.
Baloyi said that he had come to realise that the MK party was the only organisation well-equipped to lead South Africans.
Baloyi says the Xiluva party will be deregistered with the IEC. He says Xiluva members will also become ground forces for the MK Party. @Alpha_Mero25 pic.twitter.com/Zx9QclPUrL
