JOHANNESBURG - Wheelchair tennis duo Donald Ramphadi and Lucas Sithole claimed the quad-doubles bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris on Wednesday.

Ramphadi and Sithole defeated Brazil's Ymanitu Silva and Leandro Pena 6-2, 4-6 to clinch South Africa's fourth medal at the Games.

In 2023, Ramphadi rewrote history as he became the first South African since 1981 to win a Roland Garros title.

Ramphadi, who is South Africa's leading wheelchair tennis quad player won the wheelchair quad singles title at the Belgian Open - ITF 1 series - tennis tournament in Belgium in 2022 - the year he made his Wimbledon debut.

The 30-year-old was also part of South Africa’s quad wheelchair tennis team that won a silver medal at the 2022 BNP Paribas World Team Cup.

The South African team, including Ramphadi, Lucas Sithole and Danny Mohlamonyane reached the final of the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Portugal after defeating Brazil 2-0 to secure their spot in the all-important final.

Sithole is the 2013 US Open wheelchair tennis quad champion. He also won the 2016 Australian Open Grand Slam in doubles, partnering David Wagner.

In 2011, he won the British Open wheelchair tennis tournament (Super Series) in Nottingham, Great Britain.

Due to missing certain anti-doping tests, Sithole was suspended from competition between 30 September 2019 and 30 September 2021.
