JOHANNESBURG - Legendary musician and producer Chicco Twala said that he would rather see his sons behind bars than on the streets doing drugs.
Longwe and Sello Twala were arrested on Tuesday after their father opened a case of theft against the two and are set to appear before the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Twala is accusing his sons of stealing his recording equipment while he was on a business trip to the United States in July.
The estimated value of the equipment is between R200,000 to R300,000.
Twala said that he believes the theft, which occurred over a number of days, was done in order to feed Longwe's alleged drug addiction.
Longwe was recently named as one of the men accused of killing Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa in an ongoing trial.
Twala said that he had lost all hope in his son.
"I took him to rehab over 30 times, I did everything I could. Before I left for the US, I sat him down, spoke to him: 'You’re under pressure. Everyone thinks you did this with Senzo. Here’s an opportunity to prove yourself'. It went in there and out the other. I can’t, so what must I do?"
