JOHANNESBURG - Celebrated musician and producer, Chicco Twala, believes there is overwhelming evidence against his son, Longwe Twala, who he's lodged a charge of theft against.

Longwe made his first appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he was arrested over the July theft of his father's recording equipment valued at almost R300,000.

Initially charged alongside his younger brother, Sello Twala, Longwe became the only suspect the State believes can be prosecuted in the matter.

Longwe is already a person of interest in the murder trial of slain Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.

During the proceedings, the suspect requested that the court grant him the services of a Legal Aid attorney, explaining that he could not afford his own.

Just outside the courtroom, his father candidly addressed the media, expressing his confidence that the court would rule in his favour.

"What he's doing is wrong, it's not the first time he's doing this. He's been doing this for years."

The matter has been postponed to next Thursday to allow Longwe to secure an attorney.
