CAPE TOWN - September 3 marks a month since the disappearance of a Vredenburg teenager.

Nineteen-year-old Romano Fredericks was last seen leaving home to visit a friend in Port Owen.

It's believed that the Louwville High pupil left Port Owen and hitchhiked to Velddrif to watch a rugby match, from where it's understood he hitchhiked a lift home.

However, he vanished between Velddrif and Vredenburg and his cellphone was later traced to the town of Laingville.

Since his disappearance, Fredericks has missed his matric ball and his 19th birthday.

Vredenburg community leader, Norman van Wyk, said that he already had his matric ball suit set out.

"I visited Romano's grandmother again recently and I could feel the pain, the anguish within that whole house and exactly how much Romano's ouma is bearing at this stage."

Van Wyk said that a candlelight vigil and prayer session would be held at the entrance of Louwville High School on Tuesday evening.

"Our mission still remains the same: to keep the flame of hope alive and to continuously have boots on the ground, volunteers that are continuing the search."
