CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police say social media posts alleging extortion of officers at the Delft Police Station are fake.
A video doing the rounds on social media claims that an extortion mafia is demanding protection fees from police based at the station.
Some communities in the province are living in fear due to the prevalence of deadly extortion-related incidents.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa, said that no one would extort money from the police.
"The South African Police Service in the Western Cape would like to caution social media users against disseminating unverified information. The claims are refuted as fake news. Delft Police Station remains operational with no such demands being made," Potelwa said.
