CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Good Party coalition in the Theewaterskloof Municipality has crumbled, two weeks after taking over from the African National Congress (ANC) and Patriotic Alliance (PA) coalition.

As a result, DA mayor, Lincoln de Bruyn, has been sacked following a motion of no confidence brought against him and the Freedom Front Plus' Tienie Zimmerman has taken over the reigns as the new mayor.

The Freedom Front Plus voted with the ANC, the PA and Good to remove the mayor.

DA provincial leader, Tertuis Simmers, said that the move was clearly designed to enable looting to continue in the municipality.

"This follows the steps Mayor de Bruyn has taken to stop the abuse of the funds earmarked for Disaster Management in the municipality. Shortly after assuming office, Mayor de Bruyn exposed major irregularities in the disbursement of the fund. The Speaker, John Michels, from the GOOD Party, publicly berated the mayor and the DA for the fact that he was unable to draw R150,000 for travel expenses for students to travel abroad on a rugby tour."
