CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis on Monday attended the first day of a trial against two gangsters accused of the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Ocean View.
Emaan Solomons was shot and killed when she was caught in the crossfire of gang violence in February 2020.
Hill-Lewis said that his heart goes out to family members, who've waited nearly four years for the trial to get underway.
"Today, I joined the family of young Emaan Solomons, a beautiful little girl killed by gangsters' bullets in Ocean View four years ago. Now, finally, after all this time, the trial has started and we can hope for justice."
Last week, a cooperation agreement was signed to see all three spheres of government work together to combat crime in the Western Cape and the mayor said that the city’s goal was to help police do much more, especially in the fight against gang, gun and drug crimes.
